Speaker Johnson Appoints Baumgartner to U.S.-Canada Interparliamentary Group to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

WASHINGTON- House Speaker Mike Johnson has announced the appointment of Congressman Michael Baumgartner (WA-05) as a member of the U.S.-Canada Interparliamentary Group (IPG) for the 119th Congress. In this role, Baumgartner will engage with Canadian parliamentary counterparts to strengthen cooperation on a range of bilateral issues critical to both nations.

“The United States and Canada share a deeply rooted partnership based on common democratic values, economic integration, and security cooperation,” said Congressman Baumgartner. “From energy and trade to border management and defense, the U.S.-Canada relationship is essential to the prosperity and stability of North America. Representing a northern border district, I am honored to serve in this role and look forward to meeting with Canadian legislators to advance policies that benefit both our countries.”

As a member of the U.S.-Canada IPG, Baumgartner will focus on shared priorities including strengthening cross-border trade and travel, enhancing energy cooperation, addressing continental supply chain resilience, and advancing joint efforts on environmental and security initiatives. His experience in foreign policy and economic development will support efforts to navigate evolving challenges in the bilateral relationship.

Other Members of the U.S.-Canada IPG include: Rep. Bill Huizenga (Chair), Rep. Jack Bergman, Rep. Pete Stauber, Rep. Claudia Tenney, Rep. Brad Finstad, and Rep. Nicholas Langworthy.
