Congressman Baumgartner Announces State of the Union Ticket Contest for Outstanding Teachers
WASHINGTON- Congressman Michael Baumgartner (WA-05) is excited to announce the launch of the State of the Union Ticket Contest, titled “Classroom to the Capitol,” to recognize outstanding teachers in Washington State’s 5th Congressional District. This contest provides an opportunity for one exceptional teacher to attend the 2025 State of the Union address as Congressman Baumgartner’s guest and be honored for their dedication to shaping the future of students.
Eligibility
The contest is open to all high school educators in Washington’s 5th Congressional District. We invite you to nominate a teacher who has gone above and beyond in the classroom. This is a great opportunity to honor the individuals who are helping shape the leaders of tomorrow. Nominations can be made by students, parents, fellow teachers, or school administrators.
How to Submit
Nominations must include a brief essay (250-500 words) explaining why the teacher deserves to attend the State of the Union. The essay should highlight the teacher’s impact on students, their innovative approach to education, commitment to the classroom, and any special achievements that set them apart. Please also include the teacher’s name, school, and contact information.
Deadline
All submissions must be received by February 18, 2025. Nominations should be sent via email to collin.tracy@mail.house.gov with "State of the Union Teacher Nomination" in the subject line.
Winner Selection
The winner will be selected based on the strength of their nomination and the positive impact they’ve had on their students and community. The selected teacher will receive a ticket to attend the State of the Union address.
**DISCLAIMER: While the winner will receive a ticket to the event, they will be responsible for their own transportation and lodging, as per House Ethics guidelines.
