Baumgartner, Pfluger, Nunn Champion Resolution to End Iran’s Nuclear Threat and Defend Israel

June 27, 2025

WASHINGTON- Congressmen Michael Baumgartner (WA-05), Augest Pfluger (TX-11), Zach Nunn (IA-03), introduced a resolution affirming strong support for President Trump’s policy of permanently, irreversibly, and verifiably dismantling Iran’s nuclear weapons program.

The resolution also reaffirms unwavering support for the State of Israel’s right to defend itself amid escalating threats from the Iranian regime.

“I’ve spent nearly 30 years on Middle East issues, and President Trump’s approach to Iran has been a game-changer—neutralizing the nuclear threat and opening a real chance for peace. But Iran remains a top terrorist sponsor and a serious threat to the U.S., our troops, and to stability in the Middle East. This resolution sends a clear message: we must keep pressure on Iran to ensure the end of its nuclear program and regional aggression. Vigilance and strength are still critical.” - Rep. Michael Baumgartner

"President Trump's decisive actions dealt a critical blow to Iran's nuclear weapons program and reaffirmed America's commitment to our allies. This resolution sends a clear message: the United States will not tolerate nuclear blackmail, terrorism, or aggression by the Iranian regime. We stand with Israel in its right to self-defense and with our Armed Forces who carried out Operation Midnight Hammer with extraordinary precision.

For too long, policies of appeasement—including the Obama administration's JCPOA and the Biden administration's reversal of Maximum Pressure—gave Iran cover to enrich uranium and expand terror networks. President Trump is restoring American credibility by holding Tehran accountable and reestablishing deterrence." - Rep. Augest Pfluger, Chairman of the Republican Study Committee

“Under President Trump’s leadership, the U.S. military sent a clear message: we will not tolerate threats to our allies or our homeland. I’m proud to introduce this resolution with my Republican Study Committee colleagues to support the president’s strong actions to stand firmly with Israel and protect American service members, diplomats, and families from escalating violence.” - Rep. Zach Nunn

The resolution highlights critical concerns, including:

  • Iran’s ongoing aggression through missile and drone attacks on Israel and U.S. forces;

  • Strategic cooperation between Iran, Russia, and China that bolsters Iran’s military and nuclear ambitions;

  • Iran’s support for proxy groups responsible for attacks against American and allied interests;

  • The brutal October 7, 2023, Hamas massacre enabled by Iranian support;

  • Explicit threats by Iranian leaders to destroy Israel and carry out nuclear strikes;

  • The failure of previous diplomatic efforts under the Obama and Biden administrations that emboldened Iran’s nuclear program; and

  • The successful June 21, 2025, U.S. military strike on Iranian nuclear facilities, which significantly degraded the regime’s nuclear capabilities.

The resolution commends President Trump and the U.S. Armed Forces for Operation Midnight Hammer, recognizing their decisive action to disrupt Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and restore critical regional deterrence.

It calls for continued support of Israel’s missile defense systems—including Iron Dome and David’s Sling—and urges renewed diplomatic efforts backed by firm pressure to bring Iran to the negotiating table.

The bill is also co-sponsored by Reps. Mike Lawler (NY-17), and Maria Elvira Salazar (FL-27).
