Baumgartner Honors Service by Hiring Veteran, Gold Star Family Member, or Active-Duty Spouse for Congressional Aide Role
WASHINGTON- Congressman Michael Baumgartner (WA-05) is currently seeking qualified candidates for a two-year, full-time paid position through the Green & Gold Congressional Aide Program. This important role will focus on supporting military members and their families by managing veteran-related casework and serving as a vital liaison between constituents and federal, state, and local agencies.
The Green and Gold Congressional Aide Program was established by the House of Representatives to provide employment opportunities for veterans.
The position is based in Congressman Baumgartner’s Spokane district office. However, applicants residing anywhere within Washington state’s 5th Congressional District are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility Requirements:
- Veterans must meet all the following criteria:
- Honorably discharged;
- Released from active duty within the last six years;
- Pay grades at or below E-5, O-3, or W-2;
- Veterans promoted to E-6, O-4, or W-3 within six months of separation are eligible if all other criteria are met;
- Veterans receiving 20-year or Temporary Early Retirement Authorization (TERA) retirement are not eligible.
- Gold Star Family Members must be a surviving child (including stepchild), spouse, parent, or sibling of:
- A service member who died in the line of duty (including reserves and National Guard), unless due to willful misconduct; or
- A veteran with an Honorable Discharge who died from a service-connected disability within four years of separation.
- Active-Duty Spouses must be the spouse of a full-time active-duty service member. Please note that spouses of Title X mobilized service members are not eligible.
