Baumgartner Applauds the Passage of CRA’s disapproving of harmful Biden EV Waivers

May 1, 2025

WASHINGTON- Today, Congressman Baumgartner released the following statement upon the passage of three Congressional Review Acts (CRA’s) –H.J.Res. 88, led by Rep. John Joyce (PA-13) H.J.Res. 87, led by Rep. John James (MI-10), and H.J.Res. 89, led by Rep. Jay Obernolte (CA-23).

“EV mandates may sound green, but they’re costing Americans—raising car prices, threatening jobs, and straining a power grid that’s not ready for mass electric vehicle adoption,” said Congressman Baumgartner. “Washington shouldn’t outsource its policy decisions to California. Yet that’s exactly what’s happening when our state adopts environmental mandates that mirror Sacramento’s, automatically locking us into rules that don’t reflect the needs of Washington drivers, workers, or businesses. I’m pleased the House passed these resolutions to overturn California’s EV waivers. It’s time to pump the brakes on these one-size-fits-all rules and put American drivers—and their freedom to choose—first.”

Background

  • H.J.Res. 88 – Led by Rep. John Joyce (PA-13), Vice Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, repeals California’s Advanced Clean Cars II (ACCII) waiver, which would allow the state to ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2035.
  • H.J.Res. 87 – Introduced by Rep. John James (MI-10),  repeals California’s Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) waiver, which would mandate the sale of zero-emission commercial trucks.
  • H.J.Res. 89 – Led by Rep. Jay Obernolte (CA-23), blocks California’s latest nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions standards for heavy-duty vehicles—rules that impose unworkable and overly burdensome requirements on truck engines.
