AIRWAY HEIGHTS – Airway Heights leaders recently met with U.S. Rep. Michael Baumgartner to discuss two of the city’s top priorities: completing the Public Safety Complex and improving transportation along the U.S. Highway 2 corridor.

Baumgartner, a Republican representing Eastern Washington, visited Airway Heights while attending the change of command ceremony at Fairchild Air Force Base.

During the visit, Airway Heights Police Chief Brad Richmond, Fire Chief Mitch Metzger, City Council President Larry Bowman, Councilmember Jennifer Morton and City Manager Albert Tripp outlined projects city officials say are critical to the community’s future.

One of the city’s highest priorities is the Public Safety Complex, which includes a new police station located alongside the city’s new fire station.

“This project represents more than a building – it represents an investment in the people we serve, the safety of our community, and the future of Airway Heights,” Richmond said in a statement.

According to Tripp, the city is working with Baumgartner to secure $1.5 million in federal funding to help complete the police station portion of the project.

“Representative Baumgartner is supportive of initiatives, like ours, to improve and protect public safety here on the West Plains,” Tripp said.
