WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Michael Baumgartner (WA-05) wrote to the Ambassador of Egypt and welcomed the Egyptian National Team to Spokane, Washington, as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He requested that practices be open to kids and the public in Eastern Washington. Spokane has been selected as a World Cup “base camp” city, where Team Egypt will train on the ground of Gonzaga University in advance of its matches in Seattle.

“As the Member of Congress representing Eastern Washington and a Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, I am honored to welcome the Egyptian National Team to Spokane,” said Congressman Baumgartner.

“Spokane is proud to host a team of Egypt’s caliber—led by Mohamed Salah, one of the world’s premier players.  I hope there will be opportunities for families and young people across Eastern Washington to see these world-class athletes up close. Their presence will inspire the next generation and leave a lasting impact on our region.”
